Hello, I’m Julia Horton, the creator of The Decor Diary.
I live in Austin, Texas, and I am a single mom of three amazing kids.
They are the reason I work hard and also the reason I care so much about creating a cozy, welcoming home.

Home decorating has always been part of who I am. Even when I was young, I loved rearranging furniture, painting small things, and giving old items a new life. When I became a mom, I realized how important it is to have a home that feels peaceful and full of warmth. A place where the kids can grow, play, and feel safe.

But life is busy, and money is not unlimited. I learned how to decorate with simple ideas, thrift finds, DIY projects, and basic tools. Step by step, I created a home filled with meaning, not just objects.

That is the heart behind this blog.

Why I Started The Decor Diary

I created The Decor Diary because I believe that a comfortable and beautiful home should be possible for everyone, not only for people with big budgets.

On this blog, you will find:

  • Easy decorating ideas for real homes
  • DIY projects that anyone can try
  • Gardening tips, even if you only have a small balcony
  • Crochet projects that add personality and comfort to your space

My goal is to make decorating simple and enjoyable. I share projects that do not require expensive materials or advanced skills. If I can do it as a busy mom of three, you can do it too.

What You Can Expect

Every project I share is tested in my own home. If something does not work or is too complicated, I do not post it.

You will find:

  • Step-by-step instructions in clear language
  • Affordable ideas
  • Inspiration for every room in your home
  • Real solutions for small spaces and busy lives

I want this blog to feel like a friend giving you advice, not a magazine telling you what you should buy.

My Mission

I want to help people create homes that feel warm and personal.
I believe that a home should tell a story — your story.

You do not need perfection. You only need creativity, patience, and the willingness to try. Small improvements make a big difference.
